Richard Sloggett writes on the need for ‘levelling up health’

Future Health’s Founder and Programme Director Richard Sloggett has written for the Conservative Home website about the need for a new political consensus on public health and tackling health inequalities. The article follows the launch of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Longevity’s report into ‘Levelling Up Health’. The report, which was co-authored by Richard, included recommendations for a ten year health improvement plan focused on major causes of ill health, including smoking, obesity and clean air. It also called for the establishment of a Health Improvement Fund that will support areas of poorest health that have been particularly badly hit by the pandemic.

The work forms part of Future Health’s prevention work programme and comes after news that the Government was adopting the model for public health reform advocated in a report by those at Future Health last year.
