Richard Sloggett joins Alzheimer’s Society policy panel discussion on social care reform

Future Health Founder and Programme Director, Richard Sloggett joined a panel discussion with the Alzheimer’s Society at their policy conference today. A year on from the first Covid lockdown Richard set out the importance of the next six months for the Government’s social care agenda.

Richard welcomed the Alzheimer’s Society’s report on personalised care report as the basis for building a new narrative for what a better social care system should look like. The report is available here: https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/sites/default/files/2021-03/A%20Future%20for%20Personalised%20Care.pdf

Richard set out the three tests for social care reform:

  • A clear funding model to stabilise the system – this could be free personal care, Dilnot caps or a pensions style system
  • An injection of funds to transform social care delivery so it is more personalised and meets the needs of people who access services and their carers; including investment in new technology and support
  • Any social care funding reforms to be part of a wider ‘long term plan’ package of measures to improve the delivery of care and address workforce challenges
